Aims and Scope

Aims

Futures studies is an emerging field of study having been developed and introduced as an academic discipline since the Second World War. It is particularly young in Iran, where related research activities started in the 1990s, while academic activity began for the first time in 2008 with the admission of Ph.D. students at Imam Khomeini International University. Practically speaking, the history of futurology may be attributed to the formulation and implementation of development programs, but the first related noticeable work in Iran was the 1404 Economic Perspective Document adopted in the 2000s, depicting the country's twenty-year development route from 2005 to 2025 to build a preferable future.

As this is an emerging field of research in Iran, it is necessary to produce and promote scientific literature in this respect in order to enrich its theoretical and practical dimensions through an indigenous and Iranian-Islamic approach. Moreover, given the fact that Imam Khomeini International University has contributed to strengthening and expanding this field of study by establishing a discipline and admitting students, it is necessary to provide opportunities, tools and facilities needed to achieve this goal in line with the national goals and missions of Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (moving across boundaries of knowledge, striving toward new sciences, strengthening new disciplines, supporting interdisciplinary areas etc.). The publication of Journal of Iran Future Studies is a step toward this goal. This journal will help provide the opportunity for the researchers and scholars across the country (and even abroad) to disseminate and exchange their research findings and achievements in this area, thereby making it possible to use all available capacities in this country to produce and promote the knowledge and literature in this area of knowledge.

Scope

Considering the wide scope of futurology, this publication sets out to publish articles that fall into one of the following areas:

1. Theoretical aspects of futures studies, especially with a new and critical approach;

2. Review and criticism of the capability of the tools, methods, and models of futures studies and foresight;

3.Futures studies, foresight, strategies, perspectives, scenarios, ... about Iran and its related issues;

4.Investigating the status and futures studies and foresight at various levels in Iran; and

5. Futurology and futures studies with an Iranian-Islamic approach and perspective.

Accordingly, with respect to its goals and missions, this journal welcomes research papers and scientific findings in futurology, especially in relation to Iran, and invites all researchers and scholars in this area to submit their articles to this journal for publication.
